Chapter 72: Ode to Canadian Geese-ers

nerd blog post #76

Back in Rennes is okay, but I'm finding it hard to be as excited here as I was last semester. I think I get antsy too quickly and am ready for change faster than some people.. This city is feeling a little small and I'm getting a bit bah-red.

But there are good things. Tuesday Tradition was another success. Tonight I'm going to a party that's welcoming Erasmus students to my university. It has nothing to do with the English dept but a friend invited me and I think it could be fun. Merrill and Cynthia will come, too. Hopefully there will be some nice peeps that want to hang and speak French.

Tomorrow night, Cynthia and Merrill are throwing me an early birthday party! Since my bday falls during our week off, and Cynthia is going to Italy this week-end, tomorrow night is the best time. I was surprised, but am very excited. The theme? Canadian Geese-ers. I like it. Thumbs up, Merrill, for a great theme. Theme parties are my fave. I'd like a theme wedding and funeral. I will wear a ridiculous red and white outfit, sing our anthem with pride (in our two official languages) and talk about hockey. Guests include the other lecteurs, a prof, and a bundle of our fave freens. Drinks will be red and white. I'm pumped.

Tomorrow, a lot of France is going on strike. Peeps love to strike around here. Since none of the profs, administration or students are going to school, I have the day off. And so my week-end will commence. "No, no, we won't go!" etc.

My friend, Jana, was supposed to come from Germany for ten days, arriving tomorrow, but on Monday she wrote and said she can't anymore because her exams have been moved and she needs to study.. This was disappointing news. I'm not sure if I'll be able to see her before the Summer, and I don't know what her plans are then anyways. I really would like to see her while I'm in Europe, since I don't know when the next time will be... And it's already been 6.5 years!

That's all the news here. It's raining today, as it does most days. I haven't seen the sun in over a week! Quite a different Winter than I'm used to.

Hope Canada isn't too cold and that you're all well. Love to you all.

Signing off,
Hincks.

What?! So you are enjoying a five day weekend starting today? Once it hits five days I think that's the official limit to it being called a weekend.

Theme Parties! I should have added that to my Canadiana list. Take lots of photos!

Yes, let us chat today. I'm around for sure in the afternoon.
