nerd blog post #77
I forgot to mention that I saw a movie when I was in Paris. I see about one movie a year in the cinema, and I actually don't think I saw one in 2008. I'm just not really that into sitting quietly in dark rooms for long periods of time with friends that don't want to chat with me. I do like plays, though, but it's the liveness of theatre that makes it an entirely different experience for me. But anyways, sometimes I go, and this time I saw one entitled Slumdog Millionaire. I really liked it. A beautiful story and highly recommended by The Hinckster. I had nightmares for the following two nights, though, since I'm not used to movies and there were some scary bits.
Cynthia got into nine of the eleven medical schools she applied to. To congratulate her, her parents treated her, Merrill and I to a dinner of Dr. C's choice. We went to a really fancy one last night called Leon le cochon, which serves a lot of pig. We had wine and appetizers and main course and desert! It was much fancier than anything I'm used to. I'm not that into eating pig, so I had pigeon salad and duck with potatoes. Pigeon is a delicacy here and it was tasty. I'm thinking about rounding some up at Dundas Square and cooking up a feast upon my return.
After dindins was my birfday party. Top points to Foun who wore a hockey jersey under a Canada shirt. Big ups to Emma the Irish lass who painted a Canadian flag on her face. I sang our national anthem several times in both languages, wore red and white, a necklace from Mrs. Schad that says I (heart) Canada, and several Canadian flags from Loretta, Doc's mom. It was a great party that lasted into the wee hours.
Today I took a couple of classes for Cynthia as she's off to Italy for the week-end. Benito and Cynthia are now dating and are trying to make a Rennes/Milan relationship work. He'll be coming back with her on Monday and staying for nine nights. I'm happy because I love having Benito around. And they seem really happy. And they have a secret code language called "Spanish" that they talk to one another.
Dear young bachelors,
I am really into cooking in 2009. I make Cynthia breakie on our days off. My specialties include (but are not limited to) omelettes, soup, mussels and fries, fancy salads and breakie feasts. I especially like cooking when no one is home. This afternoon I made a carrot and spinach soup and hummus.
Love,
Hinckster
Tonight I'm going to Merrill's for dindins and lefty ovary wine. I'm not sure what the rest of the week-end will hold, but I have some correspondence and prep work that I want to get done. I am now teaching two Master's classes and need to get ready for them.
I hope you are all well. Enjoy the week-end!
Signing off,
Hincks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think I count three movies I dragged you to in 2008: Across the Universe, Lars and the Real Girl, and that delightful In Bruges.
Glad to hear that the Canadian flags were put to good use!
Again, I must lament the fact that this newfound cooking ability took hold in France and not in Toronto. I see a future "feast for friends" in the cards upon arrival? Hmmm...now we only need to come up with a theme.
xo
you're right! i thought across l'univers was in 2007 and totally forgot about lars and bruges. bruges rules and we should go there. lars is crazy.
i'ma cook you a pigeon feast, my doctor.
xo
may I also point out that we all watched "across the universe" on our spectacular V-Day threesome date in 2008! That time is quickly approaching again!
PIGEONS.
EW.
love,
Bronco
I echo Bronco's comment. eww. whatever happened to chicken on a salad? ps. Em, you will find this shocking...i tried calamari the other day. It wasn't half-bad. I'd never eat it again though, weird texture. That is all.
I ate a pigeon today. And one the day you ate one. But BEFORE you did. And mine was bigger. And raw.
